New Building of Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad Opened

Novi Sad, March 19, 2015.

The new building of the Faculty of Sciences (PMF) at University of Novi Sad, built by the European Union (EU) in the framework of the EU HETIP, was officially opened. The new building, measuring approximately 200 square meters, was opened by a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony by Christian Danielsson, Director of the European Commission’s General Directorate for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Bojan Pajtic, President of the Executive Council of Vojvodina, and Aleksandar Belic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.

Project of construction of new building, realized with the EUassistance of 1.2 million EUR included the upgrade of two floors above the existing amphitheatre at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Department of Physics. Thus, the PMF got a central reading room, two new classrooms and fourteen professorial cabinets.

Modern equipment for Technical faculty in Bor

Highly sophisticated teaching equipment for students and professors at the Technical faculty in Bor will provide the most modern and most detailed analysis in the fields of chemical and metallurgical engineering in Serbia. The equipment is donated by the European Union to the Faculty and its worth of EUR 600.000 is part of the HETIP project.

By mid 2014 modern equipment was delivered to the Technical faculty in Bor: Simultaneous - DSC/TGA, Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy System - SEM with EDS, Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy – ICP-OES, Electrochemical workstation, and Scanning probe microscope - SPM.

About the project

High Education Teaching Infrastructure Project (EU HETIP) is a joint project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and the European Union for whose implementation the EU has secured 30 million EUR from the IPA financial instrument for Serbia.

The overall objective of the project is to support the development of a knowledge-based economy in Serbia that responds to future labour market demands in line with the Lisbon Strategy.

The Project will fund the renewal of laboratories, research cabinets, study rooms and communal facilities for 27 Serbian public faculties in: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Niš, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Bor, Vrnjačka banja, Čačak, and Leskovac. The purpose of the project is to undertake rehabilitation of 27 high education institutions in Serbia, at five public Universities and to deliver sophisticated and state of the art teaching equipment.
